Congratulations to TSP’s Newest Certified Passive House Consultant!

CONGRATULATIONS to Jon Chizacky, AIA, LEED AP BD+C and now, CPHC for successfully achieving his certification as a Passive House Consultant! To become a Certified Passive House Consultant, professionals must take a comprehensive two-phase program, including 40 hours of live online instruction, plus five full-days of in-class learning featuring intensive interaction. Unlike some other programs, PHIUS CPHC training requires in-depth instruction on energy modeling using the state-of-the-art WUFI Passive Tool.

PHIUS-trained Certified Passive House Consultants (CPHCs) are leading the adoption of passive house by designing and building quality-assured passive projects – single family, multifamily and commercial developments. These houses are being built across North America’s varied climate zones and they are earning PHIUS+ Certification, which follows RESNET QA/QC protocols and requires ENERGY STAR Certification, U.S. DOE Zero Energy Ready Home and U.S. EPA Indoor airPLUS qualification.

What is Passive House anyway?

A Passive House is a construction concept that is qualified by its high standards in the areas of quality, comfort, resiliency, and energy efficiency. A house that achieves this certification requires very little energy to maintain a comfortable temperature year round, making conventional heating and cooling systems obsolete. One of the “coolest” elements of a Passive House is its extremely well insulated building envelope, which includes triple glazed window and insulated frames that keep the desired warmth or lack thereof inside, maintaining a comfortable temperature within the occupied spaces. This boasts up to 90% savings in heating and cooling related energy compared to existing building performance. Additionally the air ventilation systems in these houses consistently supply fresh air, enhancing the overall indoor air quality without unpleasant drafts. A Passive House is an affordable, comfortable, and sustainable alternative to a conventional home.

We are very excited and want to congratulate Jon on a job well done!
