The Sheward Partnership completed a design task in response to a request for professional design services. The new Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) is an excellent opportunity to provide an iconic design symbol that is easily distinguishable and immediately recognizable as a BWI Marshall landmark. A strong contextual solution for this new ATCT references the architectural expression of surrounding structures and forms. Strong consistent contextual themes include the expression of glass and structural steel present throughout all Terminals at BWI Marshall as well as the strong sculptural vertical rhythm of the circulation towers of the daily parking garage.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned to design a new medical office building in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey for the Rothman Institute. The project included individual patient exam rooms, as well as suites for MRI, x-ray, and physical therapy. Sustainable daylighting strategies bring natural light deep into the space, while modular building technologies contributed to a short construction period. The Sheward Partnership also served as the LEED and Sustainability Consultant. The project was awarded LEED certification under the New Construction v2.2 Rating System.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned by RPA Design to provide the exterior envelope design for the new Veterans Affairs Health Care Center. The new five-story structure provides a high-performance healing environment, while creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for veterans and their families. The Sheward Partnership also served as the LEED and Sustainability Consultant guiding the achievement of Silver certification under the LEED 2009 for Healthcare Rating System. This project is one of the first LEED for Healthcare projects in the country, and the first for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned by Main Line Health to design a new medical office building on their existing campus in Media, Pennsylvania. The building provides a suite for the Rothman Institute as well as a suite for the Riddle Hospital Rehabilitation & Therapy Clinic. Individual office suites, a therapy pool and an open MRI are also included. The Sheward Partnership served as the LEED and Sustainability Consultant. The project was awarded LEED Gold certification under the Core & Shell Development v2.0 Rating System. Riddle Health Center 4 was the first LEED certified project for Main Line Health, one of the largest healthcare providers in suburban Philadelphia.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned by Nazareth Hospital to design a new medical office building to expand their Northeast Philadelphia campus. The 21,000 square foot building houses state of the art Orthopedic Offices, as well as an MRI suite and four medical office suites. The EFIS, glass and metal panel exterior responds to its context by presenting two faces. A primarily commercial façade faces Roosevelt Boulevard and acts as a horizontal backdrop for the Nazareth Hospital and Rothman Institute logos. The residential Fairfield street façade is composed primarily of EFIS, designed with vertical elements to respond to the row homes across the street.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned by the School District of Philadelphia to provide professional design services for a major renovation to the existing Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical School. Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical School is a 6-story brick and stone faced building constructed in 1929. In 1967, an addition was added on the west of the building. The renovation involved the expansion of many of the existing smaller classrooms to meet the requirements of the State Department of Education as well as major upgrades and repairs to the building infrastructure.
The Sheward Partnership, (Associate Architects) and prime consultant Ross Barney Architects (Architect of Record) were commissioned by the School District of Philadelphia to design the new Commodore John Barry Elementary School at the corner of 59th and Race Streets in West Philadelphia. The design challenge for this project was to provide a first rate academic facility on a tight urban site. To maximize outdoor play areas and neighborhood green space, a four-story school was designed. The K-8 school has 46 classrooms and additional instructional spaces for art, science, vocal music and technical education. The Sheward Partnership was fully responsible for the LEED certification process. The project achieved LEED Gold certification under the LEED for New Construction v2.2 Rating System.
The Sheward Partnership was commissioned by the School District of Philadelphia to design a new 36,500 square foot addition and 35,000 square foot renovation of the existing K-6 Bridesburg School located in North Philadelphia. The new program included administration and cafeteria spaces, as well as extensive classroom additions and improvements. The Sheward Partnership also served as the LEED and Sustainability Consultant. The project achieved LEED Gold certification under the LEED for Schools v2.0 Rating System.
